Robert "Bob" Baird, 69, Stevens Point, died on Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at his home under the care of Ministry Home Hospice Care. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 12, at the Shuda-Plover Family Funeral Home. His nephew, Scott Larson officiated.

Robert Baird was born on Oct. 7, 1937, in the city of Greenwood, to Hastings and Ione (nee Shupe) Baird. He served his country in the United States Army. He entered the service Oct. 14, 1957, training at Fort Sheridan, Ill. During his two years of service, which were mostly spent in Italy, he received the Good Conduct Medal and the Sharpshooter (Rifle) Award. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 25, 1959 , after which he graduated from UW-Eau Claire. He married Danielle Dunn on June 10, 1961, at Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire. They moved to Stevens Point in 1979. He was employed by Worzalla Publishing until his early retirement in 1993, because of health reasons.

Survivors include his wife, Danielle; two children, Michael (Julie) Baird, Stevens point, and Heather (Bob) McRoberts, Bloomer; one grandson, Logan Baird; one step-granddaughter, Ever McRoberts; three sisters, Janice (Kenneth) Steiger, Holman, Donna (Norman) Larson, De Forest, and Virginia (Richard) Engle, Sun City, Nev.; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Baird, Stevens Point.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Jerry Baird; and his niece, Patti (nee Baird) Wimme.

A memorial will be established in his name for the American Lung Association and the Diabetes Association.
