A potentially serious fire was doused by Unity village firemen at the warehouse owned by Welcome Dairy last Thursday, July 6.

Unity firefighters answered the bell about 7:30 pm that evening and were sent to the building, site of the former Don Smith Sales on the village’s southwest side.

Volunteers tore off some metal panels and had the flames extinguished in short order.

Jack Molle said the building contained empty cheese boxes and other articles, and stated, “It would have been a bad fire if it had got going. It was fortunate we got it put out right away.” There was very little damage to the structure, he added.

The blaze was reportedly caused by youths playing with fireworks. Molle said they had been referred to Clark County juvenile authorities.
