Mattson, Robert W. (13 JUN 1929 - 8 APR 1979*)

Medford - Robert W. Mattson, owner and operator of Welcome Inn Motel, died of an apparent heart attack at approximately 4:05 p.m. Sunday at his home at 870 N. Eighth St., Medford. He was 49.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s American Lutheran Church with burial in Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery, both in Curtiss. The Rev. Alan C. Minshall will officiate.

Mrs. Donna Schmidt and Mrs. Joanne Wittek will provide music. Pallbearers will be Robert Spencer, Eugene and Dale Steinke, Victor Borgemoen, Earl Schiszik and Ronald Brink.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford.

Mr. Mattson was born June 13, 1929 at Owen and married the former Virgie Lott Jan. 22, 1949 at Curtiss.

After graduating from Owen High School in 1948 he worked in Milwaukee until 1952. He then worked for cheese factories in Curtiss, Loyal and Milan and also was employed by Post Co. at Owen. He later owned and operated Sistco Petroleum Products in Owen and from 1968-70 owned and operated Spot Bar in Owen. In 1975 he purchased the Brost Motel, now known as Welcome Inn Motel. He was a member of St. Paul’s American Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Rhonda) Buss of Abbotsford; a son, William of Wanamingo, Minn.; and three grandchildren. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. William (Viola) Mattson predeceased him.
