Ehlert, Charles (2 Sept. 1864 - 1937)

Charles Ehlert, for 32 years a resident of the town of Hewett, died at West Allis where he moved a few years ago.

He was ill but a few days before having suffered a paralytic stroke. He was taken to a local hospital where he passed away.

Mr. Ehlert was born at Huntley, Ill., Sept. 2, 1864. He grew to manhood there and in Dec. 1885 was united in marriage to Louise Rose.

About 35 years ago they came to Clark County; Mr. Ehlert purchased a tract of land near Columbia, which he improved with great care and industry. He made a carefully study of the soil and its adaptation to various products and succeeded in quiet5 an outstanding way in raising good crops.

He also took great interest in local affairs, especially in schools and township business, representing the town of Hewett for many years on the county board. He was a man of broad views, kind and courteous and a good husband and father, and in every way a most admirable citizen.

He is survived by six children, Arthur in the town of Hewett, Eric and Louise at home in West Allis, Carl, town of Hewett, Laura, Mrs. Jack Biggs, West Allis, Marie, Mrs. Walter Wagner, Globe. George was killed in the World War, and a daughter, Augusta, died in infancy. He leaves also one sister, Mrs. Louis Rheberg, Crystal Lake, Ill.

Funeral services were held in the Lutheran Church at West Allis on July 3. Mrs. Walter Wagner and Carl Ehlert drove down to the funeral.
