Kapka, Amelia (14 July 1849 - 31 July 1937

Amelia Kapka was born in Halberstadt, Germany, July 14, 1849, and died at her home in Neillsville July 31, 1937, at the advanced age of 88 years and 17 days. She was taken sick June 30 and gradually relief from suffering.

When she was five years old the family came to America and made their home at Hingham, Wis. There on Oct. 25, 1868 she was married to Martin Kapka. They resided at Hingham until 1881, when they moved to Neillsville, where she has since made her home. Three children came to make happy the home; Mrs. Frank Dwyer of Neillsville, Charles Kapka, who passed away in 1933 and Mrs. Charley Holte of Neillsville, Wis. Her husband died in 1912.

Mrs. Kapka was a woman of beautiful Christian character, very cheerful and with a great sense of sunshine and comfort to others. Though her way was not an easy one, she lived it heroically. She was the oldest member of the Methodist church of Neillsville, Wis. She was also an active member of the women’s Relief Corps.

She leaves to cherish her memory here, her two daughters, Mrs. Dwyer and Mrs. Holte of Neillsville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, other relatives and a large circle of friends, old and young.

Funeral services were held from the home and the Methodist church Monday afternoon, Aug. 2, with her pastor, Rev. E. P. Stone officiating. At the grave the services were conducted by the Women’s Relief Corps.
