Burmeister, Cecil (28 OCT 1907 - 8 AUG 1914)

Cecil Burmeister, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Burmeister of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., was killed Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock when he fell from a horse’s back, after which a wagon wheel passed over his head, fracturing his skull. He was only 6 years old.

The little boy was visiting at the farm of Mrs. Kate Gregorious, near Mackville. About 3 o’clock he went out into the fields, and as there were a lot of thistles there, someone place him upon the back of one of the horse’s back, but a few moments when the horse shied, throwing the boy to the ground, when the wheels of the wagon passed over him. Cecil Burmeister was born in Colby, Oct. 28th, 1907. At the time of the accident he was visiting at the home of his step-mother’s mother in Mackville. His father was in the field with him helping to load grain and witnessed the sad ending of his little son. The remains were brought back to this city, Sunday afternoon, and the funeral held from St. Mary’s Church Tuesday morning, Rev. H.J. Artmann officiating. Little schoolmates and sympathizing relatives and friends attended the funeral and escorted the remains to the Catholic Cemetery, where they were laid to rest beside those of his mother. The bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of this entire community.

Out of town relatives present were, Herman Burmeister and wife, Rib Lake; Mrs. M. Philippi, and Mrs. H. Oestreich, Marshfield; John Schlimm and wife, Mrs. Joe Peters and Mrs. Wm. Decker, Athens; Mrs. Kate Gregorious, Mackville.
