Coughlin, Mary (15 Aug. 1857 - 1 Nov. 1937)

Mrs. Mary Coughlin, long a resident of Pine Valley, passed Monday evening, Nov. 1, after a short illness. About two weeks ago she was taken ill at her home in Pine Valley and was moved to the city for medical care.

Mrs. Coughlin, whose maiden name was Mary McMahon, was born at Peterboro, Ontario, Canada, Aug. 15, 1857. She grew to womanhood there and on Nov. 17, 1877, was married to Timothy Coughlin.

Mr. and Mrs. Couglin moved to Mt. Pleasant, Mich., where they lived for 16 years, coming to Clark County 45 years ago.

For a time they lived in what is now the town of Mead, and later moved to Neillsville, Wis. About 31 years ago they moved to a small farm in Pine Valley, which was her home until her death. Mr. Coughlin died in 1933.

Mrs. Coughlin was a wife and mother of ideal qualities, devoted to her home and family, but also ready to help a neighbor when needed. All who knew her will long remember her kindly ways.

For more than 30 years Ms. Coughlin was the Press correspondent for North Pine Valley and was very faithful in sending in the news.

Mrs. Coughlin is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Kate Cornest and Mrs. Nora Lindsley of Neillsville, Mrs. Ella Padaries of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Matie Schunk of Marshfield; two sons, Joseph and John, of Pine Valley; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Young, Minneapolis, Mrs. Ellen Coughlin, Peterboro, Ontario, and Mrs. Nora Trogner, Neillsville; three brothers, Mike McMahon, Centralia, Wash.; and Ed and Matt McMahon, St. Jo, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Thursday morning, Nov. 4.
