Ludwig, Polzin (21 Feb. 1870 - 6 March 1938)

Ludwig Polzin, 68, of Route 1, Neillsville, passed away at his home Sunday, March 6, shortly after mid-night of a heart attack, having been ill for six days.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 10, at 1:30 o’clock p.m. at the Schiller Funeral Home and at 2 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Wm. A. Baumann officiating, and burial taking place in the Neillsville Cemetery. The pallbearers selected are: Fritz Nemitz, Aug. Wagner Sr., Aug. Wagner Jr., August Klann, Wm. Meier and August Meier.

Deceased was born in Germany Feb. 21, 1870, to Christian and Minnie Polzin, coming to America in 1891, and has been a resident of Clark County for many years.

He was married to Ida Schabinski May 28, 1892, at Neillsville, 13 children being born to them [according to family records 14 children were born], 11 of whom survive to comfort their mother. The children are: Elmer, Walter, Louis and Vernon Polzin, Mrs. Franklin (Martha) Gregory and Mrs. Wm. (Emma) Burg, all of Racine; Mrs. James (Mattie) Pittman, Yerington, Nev., Mrs. Russell (Minnie) Uphouse, Holsopple, Pa.; and Bernard, Alvin, Ervin and Harold Polzin, at home, all of whom, except Mrs. Pittman, are expected home for the rites.

Mr. Polzin spent most of his life at farming, about 40 years being spent in this community, and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Funeral rites for Ludwig Polzin were conducted Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Wm. A. Baumann officiating. A large number of relatives, and friends assembled to pay their last respects. Beside the children who came from a distance, there were five nieces and nephews: Ernest Polzin, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Polzin and Mrs. Henry Aswegan, all of Alden, Iowa, and Alvin Polzin, Dows, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ziembke and John Krueger, Racine, friends of the family.

*Mrs. Fredrick "Roy" (Ida) L. Toms, preceded her father in death in 1937, a son named Harold (twin to Bernard) died at birth.

Uncertain at this time if Mr. & Mrs. Herman Ziembke and John Krueger are part of the family; believe these are the friends, so that would mean the fifth one listed for nieces & nephews is missing from the list.

I would love to hear from anyone who is working on this Polzin line. I have been working with Ludwig's granddaughters for the past 3 years on their family lines. My step-siblings are Ludwig's great-grandchildren.
