Mr. and Mrs. John F. Pribnow celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 15th, which was postponed from Aug. 15th, the date of their wedding. Many friends called in the afternoon to offer congratulations and at 7:00 o’clock, a dinner was served at the church hall to about 100 relatives. The tables were decorated with bittersweet, autumn leaves and lighted candles. The third wedding anniversary of their grand daughter, Mrs. George Miller, Jr., which is on Oct. 18, and the birthday anniversary of their daughter in law, Mrs. John C. Pribnow, which is on Oct. 19th, was also observed. Mr. and Mrs. Pribnow received many gifts. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tesmer and son, Milford, Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Tesmer, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Tesmer, all of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Larson and family and Mrs. Harry Theime and family of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Horn of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fricke and daughter of Curtiss, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Feit and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Tesmer of Unity, Mrs. Augusta Olson and daughter and Mrs. Joseph Orth of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Colby - Mr. and Mrs. John F. Pribnow celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 15. They were married 50 years ago in August, 1944, but due to illness the celebration was postponed until now. Many friends called in the afternoon to offer congratulations and a 7 o’clock dinner was served in the Evangelical and Reformed church hall to about 100 relatives and friends.

 

The tables were decorated with bittersweet, autumn leaves, and lighted candles, and centered with three large cakes, one for Mr. and Mrs. Pribnow, a second for the third wedding anniversary, (Oct. 18) for their granddaughter, Mrs. George Miller Jr., and the third for the birthday anniversary (Oct. 19) for their daughter-in-law, Mrs. John C. Pribnow Jr.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Pribnow received many gifts from their guests.

 

Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tesmer and son Milford; Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Tesmer, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Tesmer, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Larson and family, Mrs. Harry Thieme and family, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Horn, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fricke, and daughter, of Curtiss; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Feit and daughter, Jean, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Tesmer, Unity; Mrs. Augusta Olson and daughter, Laura; and Mrs. Joseph Orth, Abbotsford; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Emiling and family and Mrs. Theresa Maier, Stanley, Wausau; Mrs. Walter Maier, Detroit, Mich.

Pribnow, Louise (2 Nov. 1872 - 11 Feb. 1953)

 

Mrs. John F. Pribnow died at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital Wednesday morning at 4:00 o’clock, hardening of the arteries being the cause of her death. Funeral services will be held at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery (Colby, Wis.).

 

The body is lying in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. John F. Pribnow, whose death was chronicled last week, were held Saturday afternoon at the First Evangelical and Reformed church, Rev. John Grether of Neillsville officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Nephews acted as pall bearers and were Norman Orth, Sylvester Tesmer and Bernard Tesmer of Colby, Robert Tesmer of Marshfield, Paul Fricke of Owen and LaVerne Emling of Loyal. Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Bernard Tesmer, Mrs. Robert Tesmer, Mrs. Eldred Tesmer and Mrs. Paul Fricke.

 

Louise Tesmer was born on a farm near Sturgeon Bay on November 2, 1872, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tesmer who came to this country from Germany. She died on February 11, 1953, thus reaching the age of 80 years, three months and nine days. She came to this community when a young girl and her marriage to John F. Pribnow took place in Colby, Wisconsin on August 15, 1894.

 

Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Irvin Eggebrecht of Colby; one son, John C. Pribnow of Loyal; one grand daughter, Mrs. George Miller of Unity; one grand son, John W. Pribnow of Loyal; four great grand daughters, one sister, Mrs. Conrad Orth of Colby; two brothers, Paul Tesmer of Colby and Herman Tesmer of Neillsville.

 

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Art Mueller and Mr. and Mrs. Eric Maier of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Tesmer of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Irvan Larson, Harold Larson, Mrs. Ida Lueloff, Mrs. Clara Wescott, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tesmer, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Tesmer, Mrs. Louise Thieme, all of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Horn of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fricke of Owen, Harold Fricke of Denmark, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Emling, LaVerne Emling, Mr. and Mrs. John C. Pribnow, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Pribnow, all of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller of Unity, Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Tesmer of Granton, Norman Orth of Milwaukee, Miss Laura Olsen of Abbotsford, Wis.

 

Mrs. Pribnow will be remembered as a true friend, devoted to her family with bright and winning ways so friendship’s circle to her was a large one. She will be sadly missed by members of her family and a large host of friends.

Pribnow, John F. (9 Feb. 1871 - 5 Feb. 1957)

 

John F. Pribnow died at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 27 days Tuesday morning, Feb. 5, at 1:30, old age complications of six months duration being the cause of his death. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, Feb. 8, at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby, Rev. V. O. Grosshuesch officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

 

Mr. Pribnow was born in New London, Wis., on February 9th, 1871, and moved to this locality in 1874. He was married in Colby, Wisconsin on August 15, 1894, to Louise Tesmer who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were one son and one daughter who died in infancy.

 

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Irvin Eggebrecht of Colby; one son, John C. Pribnow of Loyal; two grand children, Mrs. Wave Glee Miller of Unity and John W. Pribnow of Loyal; five great grand children; one half brother, Edgard Hansohn of Coos Bay, Oregon.

 

Mr. Pribnow attended the first high school in Colby in the old city hall, now torn down, with J. F. Simms as principal. Later he clerked in the H. J. Blanchard and A. R. Potts stores.

 

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Pribnow lived on a farm east of Colby for about five years and then he went to work as bookkeeper and scaler for the Colby Stave and Heading Company, moving to Park Falls with them in 1906. Two years later, he moved back to Colby and he and R. B. Johnson bought the general store of W. C. Pratt which was located on the corner where the Kriplean Bros. garage now stands.

 

In 1922, having disposed of the store, he went to work for the Central Canning Company as bookkeeper and later he managed the canning factory for Libby, McNeill & Libby. He retired in 1937.

 

Mr. Pribnow served as alderman, assessor and city treasurer for the city of Colby at various times. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and was well known for his friendly and industrious disposition and as a man who always endeavored to perform his duties honestly and well.

 

The body is lying in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home.

Died, at the home of her parents in the west ward of this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), Monday, July 23rd, 1900, of cerebral spinal meningitis, Evelyn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pribnow, aged one year, eight months and fourteen days.

 

Little Evelyn was an unusually bright child, that came to gladden the hearts of her parents, and her sudden taking away has filled those hearts with a deep and lasting sorrow, that entitles them to the sympathy of the entire community.

 

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from Zion’s Church, Rev. A. Kuring officiating.

Pribnow, John C. (1896 - 1982)

 

John C. Pribnow, 86, of Loyal, Clark County, died Sunday evening, Nov. 29, 1982, at the Colonial House of Colby.

 

Mr. Pribnow was born on March 4, 1896, at Colby. He received his education at the Colby Rural Schools.

 

On March 31, 1915, he married Meta Maier at Neillsville. He moved to Loyal and started the Loyal Insurance agency in Oct. 1939. He was also acting postmaster at Loyal for eight years.

 

He was a member of the Loyal and Colby Masonic Lodge and 32nd degree consistory.

 

Surviving him are one son, John W. of Amherst Junction one daughter, Mrs. George (Wavaglee) Miller of Unity seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Masonic Rites will be at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Rinka Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Sanford will officiated and interment will be in the Colby Cemetery.

 

Serving as pallbearers will be Tadd Pribnow, John A. Pribnow, James Thieme, Gerald Michleg, Dennis Engevold, and Sherrin Mack.

 

Friends may call at the Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, after 4 p.m. Wednesday. Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, is handling arrangements.

 

Preceding him in death was one sister, Hildegard.
