Brown, Joyce A. (20 JUL 1925 - 19 SEP 1936)

Joyce Adeline Brown was born in Marshfield July 20, 1925, where she lived with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brown until in 1928 when they moved to Salem, Indiana. In 1925 at the time of her father’s death, they moved back to Marshfield, where on Saturday, September 19, 1936, she was killed by a truck driven by Thomas Socha of Edgar, Wis., in front of her home at 1100 N. Central Avenue. Her twin sister Jane was with her at the time of her death.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon September 22 at the home on N. Central Avenue and at Trinity English Lutheran Church with Rev. C. A. Kipps conducting the rites. Burial was made in Hill Side Cemetery.

Joyce was a pupil in the fifth grade at the Grant School where she will be sadly missed. The pallbearers were six of her classmates: Elroy Tuttle, Jack Rudy, Allen Bauman, John Widman, Gordon Kloke, and Ronald Kuehl. The entire fifth grade attended rites in a body, as did numerous members of the third and fourth grade at the school.

Joyce leaves to mourn her mother, Mrs. Elsie Brown, one brother Forest, and two sisters, Jane her twin, age 11, and Bonnie age 9; besides a host of relatives and friends. Her father preceded her in death in July 1935.

Among the relatives and friends from out of the city who attended the services were Joyce’s grandmother, Mrs. Phoebe Brown, Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Brown, Salem, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Bugby, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Brown, Howard and Clarence Brown, all of Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Art Hendrickson, Mabel and Betty Larson, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Salzwedel, Mrs. Hans Schmidt, Willard; Mrs. Otto Rossow and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Seeman, Loyal.
