Lato, Steve P. (10 Nov. 1923 - 11 Sept. 2006)

Steve P. Lato, age 82, of Eau Claire died Monday, September 11, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Steve was born on November 10, 1923, the son of Anton and Josephine (Kanadys) Lato. He grew up and attended school in the Thorp area. On July 27, 1946, he and Florence Szymanski were married at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. They farmed in the Thorp area for 21 years before moving to Eau Claire in July of 1967. Steve worked for 17 years as a warehouseman with Roberts Farm House Foods, retiring in 1984. Steve enjoyed playing cards, dancing the polka, bowling, golfing, traveling and just being around his family, especially the "little ones."

Steve is survived by his wife of 60 years, Florence; children, Bonnie (Richard) Paulson of Chippewa Falls, David (Renee) Lato of Eau Claire, Roger (Maria) Lato of Sun Valley, Idaho; grandchildren, Todd, Joyele, Ben, Mark, Luke, Jeremy and Zac; great-grandchildren, Anika, Brody and Ellia; brother, Stephen Lato; sister, Stella Cielocha; nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; sisters, Mary, Julia, Helen; grandson, Matthew.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2006, at St. Olaf Catholic Church with the Father Brian Konopa officiating.

Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the church. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Evergreen Funeral Home is serving the family.
