Verna Schultz

Verna Schultz, 85, Turtle River, Minn., died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the Northern Pines Good Samaritan Care Center in Black Duck, Minn.

Funeral services were held Sept, 27, 2006, at the New Salem Lutheran Church in Turtle River with the Rev. Steve Peterson presiding. Interment was a the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Turtle River under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji.

She was born on May 23, 1921, in Unity, the daughter of Leonard and Mathilda (Marks) Krucker. She was raised and educated in Unity.

She married Clarence Schultz on Oct 24, 1942, in Abbotsford, Wis. Together, they raised five children on their farm in Unity. Mrs. Schultz ran a square dance dress shop in Wisconsin. She moved to Bemidji with her family in 1965. She helped her husband run his businesses, while she also ran the Sandy Beach Camp Resort in Turtle River, Minn.

Mrs. Schultz enjoyed making handcrafted cypress wood clocks, needlecraft and sewing. She and her husband were avid card players, enjoyed square dancing and were square dance instructors.

She is survived by her daughters, Christine (Kenneth) Derfus, Unity, Marilyn (Terrance) Skarda, The Villages, Fla., Elaine (Raymond) Degenhardt, Loyal and Dorothy Claypool, Bemidji, Minn.; a son Dennis (Mary) Schultz, Turtle River, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Schultz; her parents; brother, Earl Krucker; sister Norma Giles; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
