Ringquist, August (March 14,1883 - Sept 24, 1906)

SHOT IN NORTH DAKOTA

August Ringquist Victim of Robbers Gun

Monday, John Rinquist of the town of Brighton received a message from Sendoun N.D. stating that his son, August, was dead. Gust, a brother of the deceased and James Hodges took the limited that night to bring home the body. They arrived here Thursday and just before going to press we received the following particulars: August in company with Anton Korntved had started home from Fessenden, N.D. where they had been threshing and were riding on a freight when between Sendown and Venlo S.D. they were confronted by three holdup men who with drawn revolvers ordered "hands up." August hesitated the leader fired and one of the best young men of the town of Brighton fell with a bullet thru the brain.

The deplorable affair is a great shock to his family and friends. The funeral will be held today from the residence. We will publish the obituary next week.

August, the third oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ringquist was born in the town of Brighton March 14th 1883. He died Sept. 24th 1906, his age being at the time of his death 23 years 6 months and 17 days.

He was a steady, industrious young man of a rather retiring disposition but a general favorite with his companions. He always made his home with his parents to whom he was a great help and comfort.

A few moments after getting the telegram announcing his tragic death they received a letter from him, with $50 inclosed stating that he would arrive home the next day.

The funeral was held from the family residence Friday forenoon. Rev Conklin of Spencer conducted the services.

The remains were laid at rest in the Unity cemetery to which place they were followed by a large number of sympathizing friends and neighbors whose sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved family in their affliction.

The pall bearers were: Wm. Williamson, Chris Korntved, John Schjonneman, David Hebert, Andrew Gragerson, and August Oleson.

Another article in the same edition said the following:

Anton Korntved who has been detained at Enderlin N.D. as a witness since the shooting of his companion Aug. Ringquist a few weeks ago, arrived home Monday.

At the time (of) the shooting there was another man in the same car whom the hold-ups did not molest and who was taken in custody and is still confined in the jaul at Enderlin as an accomplice. Several arrests have been made but the suspects were discharged as they could not be identified as the guilty ones.
