Wilbur, Emma (1 MAR 1857 - 26 OCT 1928)

Miss Emma Bemis was born in Plainview, Minn., March 1, 1857, where she grew to young womanhood, and at the age of seventeen years was united in marriage with George Stanley Wilbur, at Arcadia, Wis. They lived at Antigo, and several other places in this state, but for the past thirty-five years they lived on their farm south of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.).

A family of eight children blessed their home, four daughters and four sons, of whom two sons died in infancy.

Six months ago she was taken ill, and has been a patient sufferer, always trying to get well. She was taken to the hospital at Eau Claire for treatment, but all that could be done was of no avail, and she gradually grew weaker. Two weeks ago she was brought home, and on Oct. 26, at 7:45 in the evening, she was called to rest, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 25 days. She leaves to mourn a heart broken husband, six children, one sister, four brothers, one of whom, Walt Bemis, resides here, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

The funeral was held from the Methodist Church, of which congregation she was a member, Monday afternoon, and the services were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends. Rev. E.A. Weaver preached the sermon, and burial was in the Houghtonburg Cemetery.

Besides the members of her family residing at other places, those from out of town to attend the funeral were two brothers, William and Charles Bemis from Plainview, Minn., Mr. Stoning, also of Plainview; Mrs. Geo. Stanley, Mrs. Emil Garber, and Mrs. Robt. Buchholz of Altoona.
