Govek, Margaret E. (23 SEP 1918 – 5 OCT 2006)

Margaret E. "Jean" Govek, 88, Willard, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at her daughter’s home in South Bend, Ind. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. The Rev. Joseph Follmar officiated and burial followed in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Brad Govek, Brian Govek, John Franklin Govek, Robbie Govek, Ryan Govek, Lee Volovek, and Dean Volovsek.

Margaret Eugene Johnson was born on Sept. 23, 1918, in Mobile, Ala., to George and Pearl (nee Petty) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Alabama until the age of 12, at which time her family moved to Pensacola, Fla. She graduated from Pensacola High School in 1937 and then went to work for the Woolworth Company in Pensacola. On Aug. 12, 1942, she married Frank Leopald Govek at All Saints Chapel Navel Air Station in Pensacola. While her husband served in the U.S. Navy, they lived in several cities; San Diego, Calif., Corta Modera, Calif., Klamath Falls, Ore., Bremerton, Wash. After he was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Milwaukee where they lived for two years, before moving to Willard in 1950. She worked for North Hendren Co-op Dairy, Willard, as their bookkeeper from 1953 until retiring in 1971. They resided in Willard until moving to South Bend, to be near their daughter, Carol, in August 2004. She was currently a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church, South Bend, and was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard, where she was a catechist and active in the C.C.W; was a 4-H leader for many years; and was a member of the Slovenian Women’s Union, and Willard Social Club, and the Slovenian Druzba Club.

She will sadly be missed by her husband of 64 years, Frank Govek, South Bend; her four children, John A. (Jane) Govek, Wausau, Mary Ruth (Dave) Weytens, Waukesha, William J. Govek, Eau Claire, and Carol A. Govek, South Bend; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Smith, Pesacola, and Christine (John) Butterbaugh, Pensacola; two brothers, George Henry (Aretta) Johnson, Pensacola, and Billy Howard (Beverly) Johnson, Big Spring, Texas; several nieces and Nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and one son, Frank Anthony Govek, on June 28, 1964.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with arrangements.
