Messerli Gottlieb (1 Jan. 1846 - 4 Feb. 1932)

Gottlieb Messerli was born Jan 1, 1846 in Wattenvil-by-Thun, Canton, Berne, Switzerland, and passed to the Great Beyond Feb. 4, 1932 being 86 years, 1 month and 4 days of age.

He was married to Kathryne Manie of Diemtigen iniSimethal, Canton, Berne in 1868. Their home was in Matten by Interlacken, where he labored at his profession, as landscape gardener, at which he was an expert. They lived happily together until Nov. 6, 1911, when Mrs. Messeril was called to the Great Beyond.

In the month of August, 1920, he emigrated to America to make his home with his only surviving daughter and relative, Mrs. Lena Michael.

He was an upright citizen and a good husband and father. Always assisting the helpless and needy, besides supporting his own family, he fostered three small children to young manhood and young womanhood.

He was a member of the Reformed church from young manhood, never missing any services when his health permitted attendance. His greatest desire was to prepare himself for Eternity, and was awaiting for a long time the call to join his loved ones there.

Funeral services were held at St. John’s church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock and were attended by many sorrowing friends. Rev V. D. Weidler preached the funeral sermon. Burial was in Mentor cemetery.
