Thur, Mary (8 March 1850 - 27 Sept. 1932)

Mrs. Mary Thur passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 1932, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Grublke, in Fairchild. She had been gradually failing the past year, until she passed peacefully away, attaining the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 19 days.

Interment took place from the Lutheran church in Fairchild last Friday, the sermon being based on Rev. 2:10 Rev. Buck officiating.

Nine of the granddaughters of the deceased acted as flower girls, and six grandsons were pallbearers.The mortal remains were laid to rest in Cleveland cemetery, where also lie the remains of her husband and three of her children.

Mary Schultz, daughter of Frederick and Anna Schultz was born March 8, 1850, at Gadelbusch, Germany. In 1866 together with her parents, she immigrated to America, and came to Milwaukee. It was here that she learned to know her future husband, Frederick Thur, with whom she was joined in marriage on July 4, 1868, The young couple remained in Milwaukee three years, and then came to Jackson county in the town of Cleveland.

To their married union were given 11 children, three of whom preceded her in death. The deceased has been a widow for many years, her husband passing on Sept. 29, 1905.

Her survivors are eight children namely; Wm., Of Long Wolf, Okla.; Mrs. Wm. Gruilke, Fairchild; Mrs. Theo. Hoffman, Wausau; Robert, (of) Fairchild; Fred, (of) Eau Claire; Albert and Rudolph, (of) Fairchild; also one sister, Mrs. Dora Hahn, of Humbird; thirty-one grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Thur’s life was one of rare devotion and service being highly regarded for her many fine qualities of mind and heart.
