Buttke, Iona (February 5, 1910 - October 22, 2006)

Iona Buttke, age 96, of Merrillan died Sunday, October 22, 2006, at the Black River Memorial Hospital, under the care of the Black River Hospice.

Iona was born February 5, 1910, in the Hatfield area of Jackson County to parents Elmus and Emma (Abbott) Rush. On June 11, 1932, she married August Buttke and together they farmed for many years in Alma Township. In 1969, she moved into Merrillan following her husband’s death.

Iona was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Jackson County Homemakers organization. Her favorite pastimes included sewing, gardening and baking.

Iona is survived by two sons, Clayton (Carol) Buttke and Roger (Jean) Buttke, of Wisconsin Rapids; one daughter, Karen (Arlan Laverne) Danielson of Black River Falls; one sister, Inez Gaede of Black River Falls; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and many other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rita; her granddaughter, Sandy Buttke Adamski; three brothers; and five sisters.

Funeral services for Iona Buttke will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at the United Methodist Church, Merrillan, with Reverend Meg Erickson officiating. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Merrillan.

Friends called from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, and may also call one hour prior to services at the church.

Casket bearers will be Michael Buttke, Randall Buttke, Dean Danielson, Bruce Olson, James Olson and Greg Ortgiesen.
