One Hundred plus Three!

Friday, September 20, 2002, marked the one hundred third birthday of Susan Lewandowski, a much loved resident at Oakbrook Health and Rehab in Thorp. Mrs. Lewandowski’s son Bob reports that his mother was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and came to Thorp as a teenager to visit an older sister. While here, she met Steven Lewandowski and was convinced to stay! Steven and Susan farmed on a site in the Town of Reseburg their entire married lives, having six children, five of whom are still living today.

Before coming to Oakbrook in 1993, Susan enjoyed baking, cooking, and flower and vegetable gardening. Bob remembers the hard work she used to do on the farm and wonders if that is what has led to his mother’s long life. He also recalls, "I know the doctors tell you not to include too much fat in your diet, but I remember how mom fried everything in lard. Today, she only takes a blood pressure pill and an aspirin and is probably in better shape than I am!"

Congratulations to Susan Lewandowski on her lengthy and productive life in Thorp - we’re glad you stayed!
