Nelson, Evangeline "Van" (November 1, 1913 - November 10, 2006)

Evangeline "Van" Nelson, age 93, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away at Memorial Home in Neillsville on Nov. 10, 2006.

The former Evangeline Fehrman was born on November 1, 1913 in Merrill, WI, the daughter of John and Alma Fehrman. She married Roy Nelson on October 13, 1935.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of first Congregational United Church of Christ and of its Mayflower Circle, Women’s Fellowship, Board of Missions, Growth Committee, and Seasoned Sabbath Singers and was the first woman moderator of the congregation. She served the wider church as the first secretary of the Board of Directors for Moon Beach Camp. She was a charter member of the Riverview Hospital Auxiliary, the local AARP Chapter, Community Concert Association, and worked for years in the Girl Scout program as a leader, board member, trainer and neighborhood chair.

She is survived by one son, Jack (Jeanette Leino), of Kingston, WA; and one daughter, Karen (James) Mohr, of Neillsville; five grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) Nelson, Kristin Mohr, Jenny (Elliott) Friedel, Kurt Mohr, and Anneke Mohr; three great-grandchildren, Haley Kate and Abby Grace Nelson and Elise Marie Friedel; and one sister, Joyce Kauth, of Mosinee.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy (Butch) and Don Fehrman; one sister, Irma Huchthausen; and her parents. Her husband, Roy passed away December 13, 1981.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2006 at the First congregational United Church of Christ in Wisconsin Rapids, with the Rev. Paul and Wanda Veldman officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Cemetery.

Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday before the funeral.

Memorials may be designated for the Music Committee and the mission program of First Congregational UCC.
