Huckstead, Annie Elizabeth (26 Nov. 1859 - 15 Dec. 1939)

Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Huckstead passed away at the Neillsville hospital at 2:30 a.m. Friday, December 15, at the age of 80 years and 19 days. She had been ill for only six days.

Mrs. Huckstead was, before marriage, Miss Annie Elizabeth Pope, daughter of Harriet and John Pope. She was born at Barington, Ill., November 26, 1859. When she was a small child she came to Clark County with her parents, who settled on a farm on Pleasant Ridge. Here she grew to young womanhood and was married to Edward Huckstead April 16, 1879 also a resident of that community. Shortly after their marriage they drove to Topeka, Kan., in a covered wagon, where they made their home for years, later returning to the Ridge, where they farmed until they moved to Neillsville in 1917. Mr. Huckstead passed away February 22, 1930.

Mr. and Mrs. Huckstead were the parents of one daughter (Florence Adele), Mrs. Elmer Counsell, who had always remained in the home of her parents. One grandson, Keith Counsell, also survives.

For her last birthday, November 26, Mrs. Huckstead was given three parties by her relatives, neighbors and friends. Though frail of stature, Mrs. Huckstead was very active and assisted with the housework until her last illness. She has been a resident of Clark County for 70 years.

Funeral services were held at the Schiller Funeral Home Sunday, December 17, at 1:30 and at the Congregational Church at 2 o’clock, the Rev. G. W. Longenecker conducting the rites. The body was laid at rest beside her husband in the Neillsville Cemetery.

The pallbearers were chosen from among her old Ridge neighbors and included Walter and Willard Gerhardt, Fred Vine, Alvin Eisentraut, George Vine and Richard Selves.

In attendance at the funeral from distant points were: Mrs. Maude Grossman of Minneapolis, Mrs. Edna Boultman of Faribault, Minn., and Mrs. Reuben King, Miss Velma King, and Robert Schultz of Marshfield.
