Briski, John and Florence (13 Oct 1956 - 13 Oct 2006)

John and Florence Briski of Greenwood celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by taking a European holiday tour of Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Poland.

They were married Oct. 13, 1956 at St. Hedwig’s in Thorp.

The couple attended the special Golden Jubilee Mass on Aug 6, at St. Mary’s Church in Altoona for couples celebrating 50 years of marriage. The mass was officiated by the Most Rev. Jerome E. Listecki, Bishop of La Crosse. After Mass, a family celebration was held at Black Bear Supper Cub. Augusta.

Their family includes a son and three daughters, Mark (Diane) Briski, Eau Claire, Michelle (Jeff) Lindgren, Eau Claire, Debbi (Paul) Pernsteiner, Medford and Barbara (Mike) Smith, Marshfield; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John graduated from Greenwood High School and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He was drafted for two years in the Army and stationed in Germany for 18 months. Following his military service, the couple moved to Withee where John was employed by the Owen-Withee School District for most of his 34 years of teaching.

After graduating form Thorp High School and attending Eau Claire business School, Florence was employed by Greenwood Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank. She later worked at the Owen-Curtiss State Band and at Time Federal Savings Bank in Owen for the last 21 years. She retired in 2001 after 30 years of employment.

The Briski’s are former members of Holy Rosary Parish, Owen and now are members of St. Mary’s Catholic, Church, Greenwood. They still continue as part of the Holy Rosary Choir and Polka Band.
