Sterr, Mildred (20 APR 1913 - 27 NOV 2006)

Mildred Sterr, 93, Safford, Ariz., formerly of Loyal. died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 2, at First United Methodist Church, Safford.

Mildred Mack was born April 20, 1913, in Loyal, to Walter and Lou (nee Welsh) Mack. She taught several years in one-room schools prior to her marriage to Jerry Sterr in 1935. She and her husband, and children moved to Safford, in 1951. After moving to Safford, she worked as a bookkeeper for Sears for 13 years, leaving to work in the family business, Boulavard Sales and Service, until she and her husband retired.. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 55 years and served in a variety of positions. Just a few of her other activities included volunteer work for the nursing home, the library, and the food bank. She was a Civil War historian and published a book based on letters sent by her grandfather, a soldier in the Union Army, to his grandmother. She was also an avid reader, a lover of pets, loved to travel, and enjoyed camping. But most important to her was her love of, and loyalty to, family and friends to whom her kindnesses were given quietly, generously and selflessly. When discussing obituaries, she once said, "Please say that my joys in life have been my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—and looking at Mount Graham from my patio.
