Milbert 'Mel' Singstock

COLBY -- Milbert "Mel" Singstock, 86, of Wausau, formerly of Colby, died Sunday Jan. 7, 2007, at North Central Health Care Center in Wausau where he had resided the past few years.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford, Wis. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, North Green Grove. The Rev. Steven Gjerde will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Milbert W. Singstock was born Feb. 20, 1920, in the town of Colby to Herman and Lena (Hess) Singstock. He received his early education in Colby and later worked on the family farm. Mel and Erma Mellenthin were united in marriage and later divorced. Mel owned and operated a Mobil service station in Colby and later was employed by GTE, now Verizon, as a technician. He moved to Wausau in 1959 while working for GTE, until retiring in 1980.

Mel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau, a church usher, and member of the Men's Dartball League. An outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing, camping and golf.

Mel is survived by his son, Tim Singstock of Houston, Texas; one sister, Carolyn Landen of Madison; several grandchildren; his nephew and Godchild, Allen (Mary) Singstock of Oshkosh, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Wendy; four brothers, Arnold, Oscar, Harold and an infant brother.

Memorials may be given in Mel's name to Zion Lutheran Church of Wausau, or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Green Grove, to the attention of Allen Singstock, 3291 Creek Side Drive, Oshkosh, WI 54904.
