Woepse, Johanna (24 AUG 1880 - 7 SEP 1947)

Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) - Mrs. Henry Woepse, 67, died Saturday morning at 5 o’clock at her home, 10 miles northwest of Greenwood in the Town of Longwood. She had been ill the past year and has been hospitalized at Marshfield several times during that period.

The body is lying in state at the Woepse home, where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at at 1:30 o’clock followed by a memorial service at 2 o’clock at the West Side Reformed Church. The Rev. J.C. Klingeberger will officiate and burial will be made in West Side Cemetery.

Mrs. Woepse, the former Johanna Schmidt, daughter of the late Carl and Fredericka (Adler) Schmidt, was born in Germany Aug. 24, 1880, and was married in the Town of Mosel, Sheboygan Co., June 28, 1896, to Henry Woepse, who preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1942.

Mrs. Woepse had come to America when she was three eyars old, the family settling in the Town of Meeme, Manitowoc Co. She was confirmed March 18, 1894, at St. Mark’s Evangelical Church, Town of Mosel, Sheboygan County. After her marriage she lived at Centerville and Herman and then the Woepses established their home in the Town of Meeme. On June 16, 1910, they move to the Henry Horn farm, and in 1925 to their new home in the Town of Longwood, where they lived until their death.

Surviving are five children, Mrs. Gust (Anna) Horn, Town of Warner; Mrs. Henry (Mary) Horn, Town of Longwood; Oscar, Mansquen, N.J.; John, at home, and Mrs. George (Adeline) Kuester, Town of Warner.

Other survivors are 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and seven brothers and sisters, William, Colby; Carl and August, Cleveland; Mrs. John (Minna) Dickman, Howards Grove; Mrs. Frieda Gutknecht, Sheboygan; Mrs. Christian (Alvina) Koeppen, Kiel; and Mrs. Martin (Louisa) Branstett, Elpha, Minn. Two brothers and a sister died.

Mrs. Woepse was a member of the West Side Reformed Church and its Ladies Aid Society.
