Ferneau, Ralph (5 MAY 1861 - 13 AUG 1919)

Ralph Ferneau, for many years a resident of this city (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.), died at the home of his daughter in Stevens Point, Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1919.

On July 15th he met with an accident while working on a house-moving job, receiving a blow in the back from the sweep of the capstan. Following this accident plural pneumonia and other complications set in, resulting in his death nearly a month later.

The remains were brought here Friday and laid to rest beside his wife in the Greenwood Cemetery, Saturday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church by Rev. Sargent of Owen, Wis. Pallbearers were: Edw. Wollenberg, Thos. Leach, Ed Buker, John Drummond, Hiram Shields and C.C. Hoehne, all old friends and neighbors of deceased.

Ralph Parker Ferneau was born near New Castle, New Brunswick, Canada, May 5, 1861. Both parents died while he was a child. He came to Wisconsin with his grandmother, his brother and uncles when he was eight years old, and spent his boyhood at Knowlton and Stevens Point. He was married to Miss Eva Oelig at Wrightstown in 1883 and removed to Greenwood, where he lived nearly thirty years, when they went back to Stevens Point to live. One daughter was born to them in Greenwood, now Mrs. J.W. Norris of Stevens Point, with whom he has lived since the death of his wife in December 1915.

Besides his daughter and one grandson, he leaves one brother, John R. Ferneau of Flint, Mich.

Mr. Ferneau was a familiar figure among the lumbermen of this section years ago, and had many friends among the pioneers of that time who are now dead or removed to other localities. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen, having joined the local camp about twenty-five years ago.
