Johnson, Louis (25 JAN 1854 - 28 NOV 1936)

Louis Johnson, pioneer resident of this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), passed away at his home here on Saturday, Nov. 28, 1936, at the age of 82 years. Mr. Johnson spent his entire life in the lumber business. He began working for the Owen and Rust Lumber Co. at Eau Claire in 1881, and in 1894 came to Owen where he started in with the J.S. Owen Lumber Co., working with them continually until the time of their closing in 1929. He was the longest employed man of the company and during his years here he made for himself a host of friends who will greatly miss him. He lived and died a Christian, trusting in Jesus his Savior for salvation. God’s grace was his living hope.

Louis Johnson was born in Berger, Sarkedalen, Westre Aker, Norway, on Jan. 25, 1854, and at the age of 27 came to this country and began work at one of the lumber camps in Eau Claire. He is survived by his wife and five children: Otto of Forks, Mont.; Harold of Owen; Carl of Clear Lake; and Edwin of Delta; and one daughter, Clare of Reno, Nev. One daughter, Caroline Olson and one sons, Joseph, preceded him in death. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the Griebenow-Weirich Funeral parlors on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 2, at 2 o’clock, Rev. Powell officiated. Burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery. Rev. and Mrs. J.H. Rostad sang two of his favorite hymns, "Face to Face With My Redeemer" and "Abide With Me." They were accompanied at the piano by Theresa Marking. The pallbearers were John Marking, Julius Johnson, Syver Bjornstad, Herman Kitzie, William Fox and William Sutter.
