Poppe, Charles G. (17 OCT 1857 - 25 OCT 1931)

Chas. G. Poppe died at his home at Stanley on Friday, Oct. 25, 1931, after a lingering illness. He was born near Frankford on the Oder, Prussia, Oct. 17, 1857, the son of John G. Poppe. The latter brought his family to Perth, Canada, in August 1861, and in 1869 to Clark County, Wis. Deceased located on an 80 acre farm in the town of Withee in 1885, moving later to Thorp, and in 1900 to Stanley. He was united in marriage to Miss Cynthia Carpenter on Dec. 11, 1880, who, with one daughter, Mrs. Elsie Farnsworth of Baraboo, Wis., are left to mourn the loss of a devoted, kind and indulgent husband and father; also one brother, W.E. Poppe of L’Anse, Mich., and one sister, Mrs. L. Pfrimmer of Madison, Wis.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at Stanley on Sunday afternoon last, Rev. E.G. Genning, pastor, officiating, interment following the services at the Thorp Village Cemetery.
