Neillsville-Assisted Living Residents (Valentines - 2024)

By June Thompson

The Neillsville Public Library held a valentine craft event Feb. 13.

Ladies from the community participated in this event, making valentines for residents at Neillsville Retirement Community and Riverside Assisted Living Center.

Crafter Maggie Gelhaus had her own idea for what she wanted to create.

“Do I have to do what everyone else is doing?” Gelhaus asked.

She applied her stickers, making her own kind of valentine while other crafters wrapped red and pink yarn around a cardboard valentine. The crafters made about one hundred valentines and delivered them on Valentine’s Day.

“This is the first year we’ve done valentine crafts,” said library director Janay Ziebell.

The library provided the yarn, ribbons, cupcake liners, stickers and glue for the project.

“I still give my children valentines,” said Ziebell.

Renea Ellis-Scheel, CNA shift leader at Riverside Assisted Living Center, accompanied Ziebell to the residents’ rooms.
“It’s very homey and welcoming here,” Ellis-Scheel said. “Everyone loves it here.”

Each resident received a valentine of their choice.
