Cutter, Mary Elizabeth (Marriage - 14 June 1941)

Rambler roses in shades of yellow, red and white, combined with adiantum foliage, formed a colorful background for the wedding of Miss Mary Elizabeth Cutter, Lima, Ohi, and Clarence E. Koppitch of Delta, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Koppitch of Cleveland. The ceremony was performed at 8:30 p.m. on June 14th by the Rev. Cornelius N. Bakker at the Market Street Presbyterian church at Lima. Miss Beatrice MacMillan, Neillsville, an aunt of the bride, attended the wedding.

Tall trellises of roses, banked with greenery, stood in the chancel while smaller trellis arrangements were placed against the chancel rail. The mellow glow of Cathedral candles lighted the setting and the pews were marked with clusters of flowers, tied with satin.

A half hour of music softly played by Miss Edith Drake of Fort Thomas, Ky., a former classmate of the bride at Western college, preceded the service, her selections including the Bach-Gounod "Ave Maria," "Thraumerei" by Schumann, "Sapphire Ode," by Brahms, Provosts’ "Intermezzo" and an air from "Orpheus" by Gluck. The bridal chorus from "Lohengran" was played as the wedding party entered; Mendelssohn’s wedding march was used for the recessional.

The bride, escorted and given in marriage by her father, was beautifully attired in a gown of white silk net over taffeta. A collar of Chantilly lace edged the deep square neckline. The high waistline was accented with a shirred girdle and the sleeves were bracelet length. The long full skirt fell in soft folds to the floor, ending in a long train. The bridal veil, which swept full over her train, was held in place by a tiara of orange blossoms. Her ornament was s stand of pearls given her by the bride-groom, her flowers a bouquet of stephanotis and gardenias.

The five attendants, wearing frocks of marquisette over taffeta, preceded the bride down the aisle. Mrs. Robert L. Casey of Muncie, Ind., the matron of honor, wore daffodil yellow. The bridesmaids were Miss Catherine Goeke and Mrs. John Komminski, Lima; Mrs. John. R. Vande Water, Chicago; and Mrs. Andrew J. Quinn, Jr., Cleveland. The attendants, with the exception of Mrs. Goeke, were classmates of the bride at Western college. Their frocks were similarly styled; shirred bodices and long, full skirts, high around necklines and full bishop sleeves gathered into shirred cuffs. Each carried a bouquet of rambler roses and a headdress of the same flowers. Gold bracelets, gifts from the bride, completed their costumes.

Walter H. Koppitch acted as best man. The ushers were: John E. Mitchell and John Komminsk, Lima; Stanley Hall, Herbert M. Schowerth and Stephen T. Bernardie, Jr., all of Cleveland; Howard G. Larick, Franklin and Robert P. Heischman, Delta.

A reception for more than 200 guests followed at Shawnee Country Club, the lounge which was beautifully decorated. There was soft music throughout the evening, played by a trio on the cello, violin and piano.

A four-tiered wedding cake placed upon a mound of gardenias, centered the buffet table. Silver urns containing gardenia trees stood at either side. Garlands of smilax draped the cloth and clusters of gardenias decorated the wedding cake.

Mrs. Cutter was dressed in a gown of gray embroidered marquisette, trimmed in sea mist green, with matching accessories. She wore a corsage of deep purple orchids.

Mrs. Koppitch, mother of the bridegroom, wore aqua chiffon and a corsage of lavender orchids.

For traveling, the bride wore a gray frock, checked with white and a Kenya red jacket. Her accessories were white, her flowers a corsage of gardenias.

An instructor in music in Sandusky for the past two years, the bride was graduated from Central high school, receiving her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees from Western College, Oxford. She is a member of the Junior Service League.

Mr. Koppitch is a graduate of Collingwood High School, Cleveland, and Miami University, Oxford. He also attended Ohio State and Northwestern Universities. He is a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. As director of physical education in the public schools of Delta, he also is head coach of that institution.
