Hoffman, Dorothea (25 FEB 1845 - 24 OCT 1930)

Mrs. August Hoffmann died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. Bunke, Friday, Oct. 24th, 1930, of pneumonia, and was buried Monday, Oct. 27th, at 2 p.m. from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Rev. J. Brandt officiating, and interment was made in the Peace Church Cemetery north of town (Memorial North). The pallbearers were Gus Busse, Arthur Baehr, Herman Holtz, Herman Marquardt, O. Kussrow and O. Schroeder, and the following girls had the care of the flowers: Elvera Laabs, Leota Brandt, Gertrude Laack, Irene Kramer, Alma Woempner and Leona Daellenbach.

Dorothea Moelmann was born in Germany, Feb. 25, 1845 and was 85 years, 7 months and 29 days at time of death. She came to the United States and in 1870 was united in marriage to August Hoffmann. They lived in St. Paul a little over six months and the rest of her life was spent here (Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.).

Nine children were born to them, all except Mrs. Bunke have preceded the mother in death, as has also the husband who passed away in 1902.

Another Dorchester pioneer is gone and though our hearts are sad as we lay away one after another of these sturdy folks that are the foundation upon which we, the later generation have built, we would not grudge them the reward following their labors. So with her who has just gone, we would not mourn too much for she has gone where no harm or pain can come. Though she was a cheerful sufferer for some time, it was only a little over a week that she was seriously ill and her life despaired of, and Friday she passed peacefully on to her reward.

May God comfort the bereaved daughter as only He can.
