Ludwig, Caroline (2 JUL 1848 - 9 JUL 1931)

It was with sadness that friends of this community learned of the death of Mrs. Edmund Ludwig, one of the pioneer mothers of Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) country, who passed away Thursday, July 9th, 1931, at the home of her son, Walter, in St. Paul, Minn. She was an invalid the last six years of her life and was 83 years and 7 days old at the time of her death. Funeral services were conducted from the Lutheran Church she attended there and sh was laid to rest in the Elmhurst Cemetery at St. Paul, at the side of her husband.

Caroline Kohlman was born July 2, 1848, in Germany. In 1868 she was united in marriage to Edmund Ludwig who died in 1920. In 1882 she arrived in this country with her husband and children and they erected a home on the farm now known as the Bruckerville place, five miles east of here.

She leaves nine children to mourn the loss of a loving mother; two sons, A.C. Ludwig of Salmon, Idaho, and Walter of St. Paul, Minn.; and seven daughters: Mrs. Meta Karger of St. Paul, Mrs. Hulda Hutchinson of Bancroft, Mrs. Emma L. Scheibe of Dorchester, Mrs. Mattie Hutchinson of Lena, Mrs. Elsie Ellingson of Medford, Mrs. Frieda Zeimer of Coleman, and Mrs. Caroline Ziemer of Salmon, Idaho.

So, a brave spirit passed on; for in spite of all sorrow and trouble, she was cheery and sweet a lady as one could find anywhere. The mother hands are folded, and her voice will never again greet her loved ones, but we would not call her back for she has gone to that beloved home, prepared for those who love their Savior where grief and pain can never enter.
