What the article actually says is this.

Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary

July 3rd 1886 at Spencer at 8:oo o'clock in the evening occured the marriage of Laura Gregerson and Ed Purkis, a young Englishman who was born at South Hampton. They made their home in the village of Unity and Mr. Purkis worked at the Spalding Mill.Their three older children,Eddie,Bessie, and Billy were born in the village. Later they bought a farm south-West of town where they lived for twenty-seven years and then again returned to the village where they now make their home. Mr. Purkis has served the public for many years, as the clerk of the Town of Unity for twenty -three years and also has served on the Maple Groove School Board for a number of years.

Since he came to the village he was elected Assessor and Justice of the Peace .These duties he still preforms, and efficiently too.

Mrs. Purkis has been afflicted with illness of one kind or another for several years, but is always cheerful and smiling and carries her 73 summers very well. Mr. Purkis will be 84 in December.

Their family consisted of five children. Ed Jr. of Oak Park,ILL.; Bessie Mrs. Jacabson, Milwaukee; Billy who died in 1932; Clyde, on the home farm; and Frank of Chicago. They also have 14 grandchildren and 15 great grand children, 13 of the later being boys.

They still have the eight day clock which was given to them as a wedding gift, and it ticks off the days and years as accurately now as sixty years ago. Mr. Purkis remarks the sun rises and sets by the old clock.

We wish to extend our congratulations to Mr.and Mrs. Purkis on this happy occasion and may God richly Bless them as they travel together thru the Sun Set years.
