Johnson, Ole (7 OCT 1841 - 9 APR 1932)

Funeral services for Ole Johnson were held last Saturday afternoon at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. J. Brandt officiating. Interment was made in the Memorial Cemetery with Messrs. Nels Laveen, Arthur Dunow, Henry Gipp, Ray Dake, Geo. Ramminger and Wm. Stevens acting as pallbearers.

Ole Johnson was born Oct. 7, 1841, at Tellemarken, Norway, and passed away at the home of his son, John, April 20th, 1932, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 13 days. Death was due to old age and a brief illness of 5 weeks duration. In 1865, Mr. Johnson was united in marriage to Miss Ingeborge Anderson at Tellemarken. Four children were born to them, three of whom are deceased. In 1881 the Johnsons arrived in the United States and came immediately to Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.), where they have since lived. In 1888 Mrs. Johnson passed away. In 1890 Mr. Johnson was united in marriage to Karina Fransen, who died in 1925. Since that time, "Grandpa" Johnson made his home with his son, John, and family.

Having lived in this community for so many years, Mr. Johnson was very well known and liked. His cheery ways and progressive nature made him a favorite of many. Besides the host of friends he leaves one son, John, and six grandchildren, Mrs. Vera Anderson of Redwood Falls, Minn., Mrs. E (Edith) Miller of Nunn, Colo., Misses Evelyn and Ruth Johnson and Ernest and Orin Johnson, and seven great-grandchildren to mourn his departure.

Out of town friends and relatives present for the services were Miss Ethelyn Johnson, Rochester, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Peter Leonhardt and family of Marshfield, Mrs. E. Anderson and son, Howard, of Medford.

The Clarion joins the many friends offering deepest sympathy to the mourning ones.

This home was located in town of Mayville, N½S½NW¼ Section 20.  As of 1906, there was no dwelling indicated on the plat map. One is indicated on the 1915 plat map, however. Ole and Karina were still living in Section 8 at that time of the 1910 census, but my great-grandparents were in this house at the time of the 1920 census. I think Ole and Karina lived here from 1913± until they moved in with my grandparents, John and Anna Johnson in 1922.  Linda Mertens - linda@wiclarkcountyhistory.org
