Celia Wiedenhoeft

COLBY -- Celia Wiedenhoeft, 94, formerly of Colby, died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at St. Joseph Rehab Center, La Crosse.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. Burial will be in Colby Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of services Wednesday at the church.

Maurina/Community Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Celia was born Dec. 11, 1912, to Andrew and Sanna Lisa (Aho) Johnson in Togo, Minn. She received her early education in the rural schools of Itasca County, Minn., and graduated from high school in Hibbing, Minn. In 1934, she graduated from State Teachers College in St. Cloud, Minn., and taught in Minnesota schools from 1934 to 1941. Celia and Alvin Wiedenhoeft were married Nov. 14, 1941, in Colby. Alvin died March 11, 1975. They farmed in the Colby area from 1941 to 1966 and in 1969 moved to the city of Colby. After her marriage, Celia continued teaching in the Colby and Spencer areas for 35 years, making a total of 42 years devoted to her teaching career. She also obtained her master degree in special education from UW-Eau Claire, the area in which she taught for the last 14 years of her career.

Celia was always devoted to, and active with, youth groups. She worked with 4-H clubs, den mother for Cub Scouts, youth groups of The Farmer's Union, the Youth Association for Retarded Children and programmed and taught religion class for the mentally handicapped at Zion Lutheran Church for 19 years. She was a member of ARC, the Delta Kappa Gamma Association, the Marshfield Business and Professional Women's Club, the Marshfield Retired Teacher's Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, Lutheran Laymen's League, Zion Lutheran Church and its Sewing Circle. She also served on the advisory committee for Forum 55 of Saint Joseph's Hospital.

Celia will be dearly missed by her son, Woodrow "Woody" Wiedenhoeft of La Crosse; two grandsons, Lance and Eric; one great-granddaughter, Patricia; one sister, Sadie Woitel of Hibbing, Minn.; and nine nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, seven brothers and two sisters.

The family request memorials be given to Zion Lutheran Church for clarion bells.
