Scheffer, Elizabeth (10 Jan. 1859 - 29 Aug. 1940)

Mrs. Elizabeth Scheffer passed away at her home in Eau Claire on August 29, after a short illness, at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 20 days.

Elizabeth Bergman was born Jan. 10, 1859, in Sundern, Westphalia, Germany. She was united in marriage to Mr. Frank Scheffer, August. 22, 1878, and came to America in 1881. They arrived in Fairchild on the morning of July 13th of that same year. In the fall of 1881, they purchased eighty acres of wild land and started at once building a home in the pioneer fashion. To this union were born nine children, two sons and seven daughters.

Preceding her in death were her husband, on Nov. 9, 1909, one son, Rev. Joseph V. Scheffer, Dec. 29, 1925, and one daughter, Monica, in childhood.

She leaves to mourn her death, one son, Frank, Humbird; and six daughters, Anne, Mary and Selma, Eau Claire, Mrs. Theresa Durst, of Rice Lake, Ada, of Loyal, Sister Monica, S. S. N. D., Beaver Dam; and twelve grandchildren.

A solemn Requiem High Mass was conducted at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairview, Saturday, August 31st, with the following priests participating: Rev. Mullen of Eau Claire, Rev. Fassbender, of Glidden, Rev. Zinthefer of Loyal, and Rev. Sheridan of Fairview. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
