Zimmerman, Charles A. (24 July 1859 - 11 Jan. 1936)

One of the very few remaining early settlers of Houghtonburg, Chas. A. Zimmerman, died at his home at 11:55 last Saturday night, after a long illness. He grew to young manhood on his father’s farm, and then developed the farm near the school, which was his home until about twelve years ago, when he retired and bought the house at Nettleton’s Corners. Several years ago he suffered a stroke and has been a partial invalid since that time.

Funeral services for Mr. Zimmerman were held at his home Tuesday, Jan. 14th. Rev. H. J. Leitzke, pastor of the Evangelical church at Augusta, conducted the service. The hymns, "Have Thine Own Way," "Shall We Gather at the River," and "Rock of Ages," were rendered by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. LeCaptain, accompanied by Mrs. Creviston. Burial was in Houghtonburg Cemetery. Many relatives and friends attended the service.

Charles A. Zimmerman was born July 24, 1859, in Voline, Germany, and passed away at his home January 11, 1936, at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 18 days. His father, mother, and two brothers preceded him in death.

He came to the United States with his parents at the age of eight years. They settled in Watertown, this state. One year later they moved to a farm southwest of Humbird.

On Sept. 28, 1888, he was united in marriage to Anna Waters, who died Jan. 10, 1896. This union was blest with three children: Edwin, Alma Center, Mrs. Lydia Pfaff, Bangor; Mrs. Elsie Byrnett, Hixton.

July 1, 1896, he was united in marriage to Emma Stark. They were blest with six children: Clarence, who resides on the home farm; Mrs. Mable Schlegel; who passed away eleven years ago; Mrs. Clara Tande, Alma Center; Albert, Humbird; George, who is living at home; and Edna, who died in infancy.

He laves to mourn his wife, Mrs. Emma Zimmerman, four sons, three daughters, twenty-one grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.
