Horst, Edward J. (26 May 1921 - 9 Dec. 1994)

Edward J."Ed" Horst, 73, Hannibal, Mo., formerly of Neillsville, died Friday, Dec. 9, 1994, peaceably at home. Military services were held Tuesday, Dec. 13, in Hannibal, MO.

Horst was born May 26, 1921, in Chicago, son of the late Henry A. I., and Martha B. (Vanderjack) Horst. A captain in the U.S. Marine Corps., he served in World War II, in the first wave at Guadalcanal. He spent a short time with the Chicago Police Department before his marriage to Maribelle L. Lintzinger on May 7, 1947, in Chicago. After leaving the police department, he joined the Chicago Teamsters Union until retirement.

In 1967, he moved to Neillsville and operated the Kickapoo Station until 1973, at that time transferring to Stevens Point, Wis., He then moved to Hannibal Mo., in February of this year.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 55, Hannibal, Mo., and a former member of the American Legion Post 6, Stevens Point, Wis. He also was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Stevens Point, Wis.

Survivors besides his wife include five sons: Raymond H. (Delia), Las Vegas, Nev., Neil E. (Viki), Plover, Wis.; Daniel J. (Maureen), Stockton; Henry A. II, (Janice), Bancroft; and William J. (Chris), Mesa, Ariz.: one daughter ,Diana L. (Robert), Vidal, Hannibal, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret (Louis) Helbeck , Longmont, Colo.
