Pinter, Josephine (2 FEB 1877 - 9 MAR 1937)

Mrs. Josephine Gruber Pinter, wife of John Pinter, died at the family home at Stanley on Tuesday morning, March 9th, 1937 at 9 o’clock, after a prolonged illness. She was one of the community’s best known and best beloved pioneer women. She was known widely because of her qualities as a wife and mother and the character of the splendid family of men and women which she gave to this community. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pinter, all of whom graduated from the local high school of Stanley, and nearly all have taken advanced training in college and several have engaged in professions. This can be accounted for in no other way except by the inspiration and encouragement of a mother’s love.

Mrs. Pinter was born in Austria on Feb. 2, 1877 and came with her parents to America in 1885, settling on what is known as the Gruber farm east of Stanley and has been a resident of Stanley ever since. On Nov. 27, 1897, she was married to John Pinter, who, with the following children, survive her: Dr. Edward J. and Dr. Elmer Pinter, of Milwaukee; Veronica (Mrs. Paul Barfknect) of Hankinson, N.D.; Norma (Mrs. Arnold Allard) of Chicago, Ill.; Wilfred, Richard, Herbert, of Alma, Mich.; Marie and Gerald, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Theodore Heiting and Mrs. Nick Jankoski, Stanley; Mrs. M.B. Medes, Cloquet, Minn.; Mrs. John G. Bogumill, Thorp; four brothers, Frank of Mica, Idaho; Anton, Math and John of Stanley.

The funeral was held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at St. Ann’s Church, Rev. A.J. Mueller officiating. Her six sons acted as pallbearers.

Visitors and those attending the funeral from Thorp were: Mr. and Mrs. John G. Bogumill and Marjorie and Lorrayne, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bogumill, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Anyzewski, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smith, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Bogumill, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Possley, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Possley, Mrs. Sayde Jacobson, Mrs. August Walsdorf, Mrs. Alfred Kass, Mrs. Harvey Ebben, Mike Ramer.
