Peissig, Whitney

Colby student elected state FFA secretary

COLBY -- Whitney Peissig of the Colby FFA Chapter was elected at the Wisconsin FFA Convention in Madison to serve as the 2007-08 Wisconsin State FFA secretary, representing Section 7 of the Wisconsin Association of FFA.

Peissig served as chapter secretary and president. She was the state runner-up in the creed speaking contest and participated in Job Interview. She also earned the Star Chapter Farmer Award and the DeKalb Outstanding Senior Award.

She also was the Marshfield Dairyfest Ambassador, a 4-H member and a Taylor County Fair participant.

She has students in Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs in agricultural sales and dairy production. Through her SAEs, she has learned to work hard and always be reliable. She also gained a perspective of agribusiness and management. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to major in agricultural marketing and business.

"I believe that passion is the reason for success," Peissig said.

Through her involvement in FFA, she has gained confidence, become a strong leader and built personal relationships. In addition, she improved her communication skills by participating in FFA speaking contests. She plans to use an encouraging attitude and upbeat personality to positively influence members to gain from their own FFA experiences.

During Peissig's year as a state FFA officer, she will meet thousands of FFA members and will travel more than 10,000 miles. In addition to meeting members on the local, state and national levels, the entire state officer team will meet with leaders in government, education, business and agriculture. The entire team also will have the opportunity to travel to Germany to learn more about international agriculture.
