Orgish, Bertha (13 July 1872 - 16 July 1935)

Mrs. Michael Orgish, a resident of Spencer since 1911, died of heart trouble Wednesday of last week at the Marshfield hospital, where she had undergone an operation for a ruptured appendix. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s church, Colby, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, Saturday morning and internment was made in the St. Mary’s cemetery. Mrs. Orgish’s condition had been considered favorable and her death was unexpected. She had been in ill health for a number of years, suffering from a complication of ailments.

Bertha Hoffmann was born July 13, 1872, in Germany. At the age of 13 she came to America with her parents, settling in Brooklyn, N.Y., where they resided for several years before coming to Wisconsin. She lived with her family on a farm near Unity until her marriage to Michael Orgish on May 5th, 1891, at St. Mary’s church, Colby. After their marriage the couple made their home in Stevens Point and about one mile north of Colby, moving to Spencer in 1911.

Besides her husband she is survived by six sons, John, Stephen, Robert, and Joseph of Spencer; Carl, Kenosha; and Paul, Oak Creek, Colo.; four daughters, Mrs. Emma Kaulfuerst, Milwaukee; Mrs. Tressa Brown, Stevens Point; Mrs. Rosella Johnston, West Allis; Miss Bertha Orgish, at home, and 21 grandchildren.

A sister, Mrs. Joe Yaeger, Wisconsin Rapids, and two brothers, Herman Hoffman who resided on the home farm, and Robert Hoffman, Medford also survive.

A son, Michael, 45, and a daughter, Mrs. Kate Reed, 30, preceded her in death five years ago. Another daughter, Mrs. Anna Reed, died in 1918.
