Ewert, Emeline Christine (25 Feb. 1859 - 4 July 1937)

Died at her home in Unity on July 4th, 1937, Mrs. Emeline Christine Ewert, aged 78 years, of arthritis.

Mrs. Ewert was born Christina Bratz, and was born in Germany on February 25, 1859, and came to this country in 1876 when a maiden of 17 years. She came directly to Milwaukee where she met and married Wm. Liepert in 1882, moving to Glenwood, Wis., shortly after, where they resided for many years and most of their children were born. They later moved to Colby where Mr. Liepert died in 1898. To this union eight children were born, five daughters and three sons of whom the five daughters, Mrs. Fred Ewert, of Decatur, Mich., Mrs. Van Misener, of Unity; Minnie Liepert of Chicago, Mrs. Edmund Firnstahl of Niles, Mich., Mrs. John Peterson of Neillsville and one son, Herb. Liepert of Pleasant Valley, Sask., Canada, survive. Two boys preceded her in death.

In 1899 she married William Ewert, a widower who owned a fine farm in the town of Unity and to this union three children were born, two daughters, Mrs. Theodore Flink and Mrs. Esther Loos of this village and one son, Oscar, all of Unity. Some years ago they sold the farm and purchased property in Unity which was destroyed by the fire of 1910 after which they purchased the Fritz farm in the outskirts of the village after which they later sold to Mat Orth and purchased their present home in the village.

Mrs. Ewert was held in high esteem by all her neighbors, and dearly beloved by all her children. She has suffered long and for months has not been able to walk, but without a murmur of complaint. Her death has been expected for several days so that it gave her children an opportunity to be with her in the last hours of her life.

The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran church at Colby of which she had been a life long member. Internment at the Colby cemetery, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating.

Besides the members of her family she leaves to mourn her death 3 sisters, 1 brother and 26 grandchildren.
