Wegner, August & Maryanna (Gold - 31 OCT 1937)

Mr. and Mrs. August Wegner celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 31st, 1937, at the home of their daughter, (Mary) Mrs. Louis Dudkiewicz at Green Bay. The pleasant day started with mass at church, after which a breakfast was served to relatives at the Dudkiewicz home. A very delicious dinner was enjoyed by over fifty people. A large cake, beautifully decorated to mark the day with gold leaves and white flowers adorned the table.

On account of Mrs. Wegner’s ill health, she was unable to attend church, so at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, Rev. Pawloski came to the residence where the family gathered to be present at the renewal of vows and a blessing given to the celebrants. Rev. Pawloski present them with a very beautiful remembrance in the form of a booklet marked for the occasion, and which contained a piece of wax that was bless by the Pope.

Upon request of their grandson, Bernard Dudkiewicz, their name was announced over the radio with hearty congratulations, after which they listened to Silver Threads Among the Gold, which was sang over the radio on their behalf. The day was tehn spent in merry making and playing cards, followed by a delicious supper served to all present, after which those from afar departed for their homes.

Mr. and Mrs. Wegner came to Wisconsin about 44 years ago and settled ont heir farm in the town of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.). To this union ten children were born, Agnes died in 1918 during the flu epidemic, Frank, Kate, Marie, Anne, Frances, John, Martha, Estelle and Betty survive. All with the exception of Frank were present. Those from out of town were: Mrs. Jos. Wagner and sons Ray and Junior of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Max Derentz and family of Harvey, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chmel and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kaminski, also of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. John Wegner and children of Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Jarocki and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Przybylski of Withee; also Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Krych and son Lenard, and Mike Dudkiewicz of Thorp.
