May, Anna (Sept. 1870 - 6 March 1942)

George may and daughter, Miss Janet, left Saturday evening for Chicago where they attended the funeral of his mother, who passed away suddenly on Friday, March sixth. The rites were held in that city Tuesday morning, interment also taking place there.

Mr. and Mrs. May, former residents of the town of Weston, had been making their home with their daughter, Florence, who is employed in Chicago, for several years. Although Mrs. May had been suffering with arthritis for some time, her death was entirely unexpected.

George May had received a letter from his mother Friday morning, which she had written on the day previous, the message announcing her death arriving that afternoon.

Mrs. John May, mother of George May of this city, died at 4:30 p.m. March sixth with a heart attack, at the apartment home of her daughters, Miss Florence. She was 71 years of age.

Funeral services were held at Zimmerman’s chapel in Chicago on the tenth day of March, the Rev. Joseph Parkander officiating. An unusually large group of relatives and friends gathered for the last rites. A profusion of floral pieces and baskets of flowers and the large assemblage being evidence of the esteem in which the departed was held. She had been a life long member of the Lutheran Church.

Two of Mrs. Mary’s favorite hymns, which her children had heard her sing since childhood, were sung at the services, namely: "Let the Lower Lights be Burning," and "Brightly Beams Our Father’s Merry."

Mrs. Mary was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in September, 1870, to Mr. and Mrs. William Zeiger. Her given name was Anna. She was married to John May in Chicago, the greater part of her life, after her marriage, being spent in that city.

Mr. and Mrs. May spent sixteen years in Clark County, returning to Chicago after the death of their son, Fred, who conducted a general store in the township of Weston.

She is survived by her husband and six children: John, Winnipeg, Canada; Mrs. Carl Schiefelbein, Janesville; George, Neillsville; Arthur, Madison; Carl and Florence, Chicago; a son, Fred being deceased. There are eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, August Zeiger, of Chicago.

George May and daughter, Miss Janet, Mrs. Fred May and daughters, Greenwood, John of Canada and a nephew, John May of Alabama were among those who attended the rites from distance places.
