Aden, Donald R. (27 AUG 1930 - 16 AUG 2007)

Donald R. Aden, 76, Greenwood, died on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, on Monday, Aug. 27, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Woodrow Pace will officiate.

Donald Rae Aden was born on Aug. 27, 1930, in Fonda, Iowa, to Reamer A. and Martha A. (nee Johnson) Aden. He was raised and received his education in Iowa, graduating from the high school in Pomeroy, Iowa, in 1949. He worked as a mechanic for Mosberg Implement and Birkey Implement, Manson, Iowa, and later at U.S. Gypsum in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He entered the U.S. Army in February 1952, where he served overseas in Korea for 12 months as a mechanic at an air field. He was honorably discharged in November 1953 and returned to Iowa, where he worked for Beneke Motors and Reynolds Garage, Both in Manson, Iowa. He married Mary Margaret Otteson at St. Patrick’s on the Lizard Catholic Church, Clare, Iowa, on June 23, 1954. They moved to Neillsville on June 4, 1959 and purchased a farm. He worked for several companies: Gross Motors, Neillsville, for 10 years as a mechanic; Mathy Construction, LaCrosse; Gaier Construction, Neillsville; Svetlick Ford Garage, Neillsville; and Nelson Muffler, Neillsville, Wis.. They sold the farm and moved to Colby in 1977 and purchased another farm. He retired in October 1989. They moved to Greenwood on Sept. 20, 1995, and bought a small farm. He was a life member of the Cloverland Antique Tractor Club; a life member of North Central Steam and Gas Engine Club, Edgar; a life member of the Studebaker Club; and a member of the National Rifle Association. He had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family, hunting, gardening, talking, and restoring John Deere grills.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret, Greenwood; two daughters; Lynette (Frank) Quinter. Greenwood; Loni (Richard) Paquette, Stoughton; four sons: Donald L. (Jean), Sun Prairie, Mark L., Willard, Kevin J., Columbus, and William J. (Linda), Spencer; 16 grandchildren: Sky Frank (special friend Ryan Warner), Douglas Sheffer (fiancée Natalie Overby), Jamie (Brian) Trongaard, Holly (Matt) Neu, Noah Aden, Jared Aden, Jeremiah Aden, Eathen Aden, Tashtna Aden, Chezyrae Aden, Shynyque Aden, Ashley Aden (special friend Greg Woiak), Alyssa Aden, Hayley Aden, and Jenny Quinter; four great-grandchildren: Vanessa Anderson, Madison Neu, Brielle Woiak, and Devan Overby; and one sister Shirley (Al) Faber, Johnston, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers; W. Dale Aden, Lester R. Aden, and Kenneth L. Aden; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Mary Otteson.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, is assisting the family with arrangements.
