Humboldt, William Henry (1 Nov. 1869 - 30 June 1942)

William Henry Humboldt, 72, passed away at 10:05 June 30th after an illness of about four years. For the past eleven days he had been a patient at the Neillsville Hospital.

Mr. Humboldt was born in Jefferson County, Wis., November 1, 1869, to Fred and Louise (Schultz) Humboldt. In the year 1900 he was united in marriage to Cora Halbrader. A month later the couple came to the township of Seif where they purchased a tract of wild land. The first clearing upon the place served as a site for the log homestead and barn which Mr. Humboldt built with the assistance of other pioneers with whom he exchanged neighborly courtesies from time to time. This accomplished, the huge task of clearing the land for agricultural purposes was begun and continued until about 46 of the 113 acres now are under the plow.

Mr. Humboldt was a most valuable citizen. Aside from his contribution as a pioneer farmer, he was active in the affairs of the township for many years, having served as supervisor for five or six years. He also served his school district as a director for some time.

Surviving are his wife and two children, (Estella) Mrs. Emil Dux, of the town of Seif and Lyle, at home, also two grandchildren, Erline and DeWayne Dux. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 5th, at the Jaster Funeral Home, in this city, Rev. O. Asp conducting the rites. Interment was made in the Neillsville cemetery.
