Wiegman, Wilhelmina Theresa (23 Aug. 1850 - 21 Aug. 1937)

Mrs. Wilhelmina Theresa Wiegman, one of the Clark county early pioneers, who had been ill since May with heart trouble and dropsy, died at 7:30 Saturday morning at the age of eighty-eight years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran church of Green Grove, Rev. M. C. Goetsch officiating. Pall-bearers were Messrs. Herman Singstock, Aug. Kobs, John Scheer, Wm. Winkel, Nick Schaeffer and George Schulz. The flower girls were Eleanor Wiegman, Bernita Wiegman, Lucille Fink and Hazel Krueger.

Out-of-town people here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Anton Brown, Mr. and Mrs. John Poth, Mrs. Joe Herr and Mrs. Arnold Meyer of Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Zimbal and family of Merrill, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Zimbal and daughter, Meta, Mrs. Fred Fitense and son, of Abbotsford, and Clarence Wiegmann of City Point.

Wilhelmina Theresa Wiegmann, nee Poth, was born in the town of Wilson near Sheboygan on August 23, 1850. There she grew to womanhood and received her early training. In 1876 she was united in marriage to Fredrich Wiegman at St. Peter’s Lutheran church at Sheboygan. Eight children were born to this union, five preceding them in death. They were Fred, Carl, Louis, Rosa and Albert. A year after their marriage, approximately 60 years ago, they came to Green Grove settling on a tract of wilderness which they purchased and developed into one of the finest farms in this community. Upon retiring from the farm 24 years ago they took up and established a residence in Colby where her husband passed away 14 years ago.

For a few years after her husband’s death the deceased made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Louis Fink, until last winter, when, prompted by the illness of her daughter, she decided to make her home with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Otto Rahn of the town of Colby. Prior to her retirement from active life, the deceased was a member of St. Paul’s Congregation at Green Grove and since then has been affiliated with Zion’s Congregation at Colby. She had been ill more or less since May and in recent weeks began to fail rapidly. Her death may be attributed to the complications of old age. Death came last Saturday morning, the departed reaching the ripe old age of 87 years, 11 months and 28 days. Surviving her are her three children: Mrs. Anna Brown of Sheboygan, Mrs. Ida Fink of Colby, and Mr. Richard Wiegman of Green Grove; 11 grand children; two great grandchildren and one brother, Mr. John Poth of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. The deceased will remain in the memory of her old friends and neighbors as a kind and loving mother, faithful toward both community and church.
