Yelke, Carolina (13 Mar. 1854 - 26 Oct. 1937)

Carolina Yelke died at the home of her son and daughter in law, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Yelke, Tuesday, October 26th, at 4:20 P.M. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at St. John’s Evangelical church at 2:00 o’clock and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery. Mrs. Yelke had been ill with heart trouble for one week.

The deceased was born in Schlotheim, Germany, March 13, 1854, thus reaching the age of eighty-three years, seven months and thirteen days. She was married to Frederick Yelke in Germany and came to this country in 1893 and lived in Chicago for a number of years, They came to this community in 1900. They lived on a farm in the town of Frankfort until twenty-three years ago when Mr. Yelke died. Mrs. Yelke moved to the city of Colby twenty years ago.

Surviving are seven children: Otto Yelke of Oak Park, Ill., Mrs. Anna Sauerland of Michigan City, Ind., Mrs. Bertha Hohndorf of Edgar, Mrs. Ida Meyer of Chicago, Ill., Fred Yelke of Chicago, Sam Yelke of Colby and Mrs. Ada Hatton of Chicago.

The deceased was a faithful member of St. John’s Ev. church and the ladies’ aid of that congregation. Being of a congenial disposition, she made friends easily and will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carolina Yelke were held at St. John’s Evangelical church Friday afternoon, Rev. A. Schmiechen officiating and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Emil Pokallus, Fred Roohr, John Sazama, August Schoelzel, Albert Gutenberger and Ernest Perske. Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. John Pribnow, Sr., Mrs. Aug. Schoelzel, Mrs. Paul Draeger, and Mrs. Louis Young.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Otto Yelke of Oak Park, Fred Yelke, Mrs. Louis Meyer and Mrs. Ed. Hatton, all of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hohndorf and son, Herman, of Edgar, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Laumer of Edgar and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Heise and two sons, Charles and Ronald, of Marathon City.
