Sorenson, Mathilda M. (11 MAR 1886 - 27 FEB 1938)

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 2, 1938 from the Longwood Church for Mrs. Carl Sorenson who died at her home Sunday, Feb. 27, 1938, at the age of 51, suffering from a stroke. Rev. Norson officiated at the service. Interment was made in the Longwood Cemetery.

Mathilda Marie Elstrom was born on March 11, 1886 at Unity, Wis., and on June 2, 1901 was confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church at Longwood.

She attended the public school at Green Grove and the Greenwood High School, graduating with the class of 1906. She taught her home school and the Bright School up to the time of her marriage.

On June 9, 1909 she was united in marriage to Carl Sorenson of Longwood at his home in Atwood (Clark Co.). They settled on a farm a quarter of a mile east of Longwood where they lived until 1921 when they moved onto the Sorenson home farm.

She was an active worker in the Ladies Aid and the Norwegian Lutheran Church of Longwood until her health began to fail.

On Dec. 22, 1933 she suffered a stroke from which she never fully recovered. On Feb. 25, 1938 she suffered another stroke and without regaining consciousness she passed away on Feb. 27, 1938 at 7:30 p.m.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Carl Sorenson and a nephew, Carlton Kraut, who as a small child came into their home and has always lived with them and been reared the same as their own. A brother-in-law, Henry Sorenson, who has been with them since they have been on the Sorenson farm, and who has assisted Tillie in every way possible, lessening her work at every opportunity during her failing health. There are also three brothers and three sisters, Ole at Owen, Elmer of Atwood, Carol of Colby, Lena of Melrose, Lucille of Madison and Clara of Chicago. Besides there are a large host of relatives and many friends.

Tillie, as she was known to most everyone, was kind and helpful to all, willing to lend a hand where it was needed. Although she has left us we cannot think of her as dead but just as sleeping for her wonderful personality, being a true friend to everyone will always linger with us.

Pallbearers at the service were: Elvin Thorson, Axel Flaaten, Fred Scherf, Edwin Awe, John Augustine and Frank Schroeder.
