Niemi, John (24 MAY 1879 - 21 APR 1938)

John Niemi, resident of this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) for the past sixteen years, passed away at his home on Thursday of last week, after having suffered from a stroke.

John Niemi was born May 24, 1879 in the country of Finland. Before moving to Owen he and his family lived at Sheldon, Wis. For the past sixteen years Mr. Niemi has operated a farm and was prior to his illness an employee of the Master Package Corp. of this city.

Jon Niemi was first taken ill in August 1936 when he experienced a stroke from which he never fully recovered, being under a doctor’s care constantly until the time of his passing.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 23 from the Griebenow-Weirich Chapel with Father Ortmayor officiating. Interment was made in the Riverside Cemetery.

Although John had been ill for the past two years he never lost interest in life or his friends.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Einer and Arnie, three daughters, Bertha, Semia and Saima, and a host of friends.

Pallbearers for the service were, Emil Haaya, Charlie Rippi, Joe Bjorn, John Kivikko, Gus Silampa and Herman Ranta.
